Help - 97 Buick LeSabre transmission surge

Mechanic says its a bad valve but recommends not fixing it yet as the problem is not that bad. I think it is pretty irritating myself. Will this be an expensive fix, if so, how much do you think. I can buy a rebuild kit from drivetrain.com for a hundred bucks. should I get one and have them put it in the same time they are fixing the bad valve. The car has 97,000 on it and is in excellent condition.
