Question 2001 T&C power door

2001 T&C

In cool weather, our passenger back sliding door would just "pop" and not open.

It did this in the past winter when it was 34 or colder. (only 3-4 times all winter)
Later in the day the door will open correctly.
But now it is doing this and it is only in the 50's the last two mornings.

(driver's side door works fine)

What is the solution?

Thank you for any help.
Barbara

My 2002 does the same thing. It started not long after I got it in Feb. At first I thought it was when it was cold, but now it's almost all the time first thing. Usually after that first no-op it works the rest of the day.

I think this is a common problem on all mopar minivans w/PDL's. I had a 90 that did it and now my 95 started to do it. I had the door panel off for another reason and lubricated all moving parts with WD40 and I think it fixed my problem. Hasn't really gotten that cold here yet.

Anyone read this 23-004-03 TSB? I may get the alldata on the T&C but don't like to think that I'd need to spend $15 on the Voyager TSB to get something that likely applies to all power door Mopar's . I checked and this title is not part of the TSB's for the T&C.

Hi,

Did you find a solution to your problem with the power door? The drivers side door on my 2001 Grand Voyager has just started to do the same thing. i.e. Pops open but does not engage the motor to pull the door back.

Hope you can help,

Steve.

Re: 2001 T&C power door

Steve, et al.,

Just got call from dealer for my "pop no open" condit. they said "motors are weak and aim to replace both". Also said not to expect good operation of these things whenever severely cold (sub-freezing?).

this confirms my suspicion that it was mechanical. Like other electrics, these things die over time. So, two new solenoids under warrantee. I got a 3mo. / 3,000 mile warr buying used w/75k and am amazed to know the doors are covered.

Chris

PS - seat heat was not. $211 for each element.

Re: Re: 2001 T&C power door

Thanks for the reply Chris,

The seat heaters on my Voyager were replaced under warranty as well!

As far as the door goes, it sounds like its worth me taking the door trim off and checking that the solenoid is not gummed up.

Do you know if any of the workshop manuals cover the 2001 - on Grand Voyagers?

Steve

Re: 2001 T&C power door

Steve,

I wish I did have a factory manual. I am currently on the fence about going DIY for this type of thing, or paying for a warranttee.

If I were on the hook for the doors, first, I would open them and look underneath where the pinion of the drive motor extends to the track, then I'd see if the mounting assembly down there looked intuitive and tackle as much as possibe without the manual. It *may* be real easy to get the motor out and swapped.

I'd be curious what the parts sources want for a new one. I've been frustrated trying to find a parts source for this van. Not for obvious things like brake pads, but for potentially proprietary stuff like these motors, seat heat elements, etc. Anyone? Is there a Chrysler dealer who is cheap on walk-in customers?

They called back on my seats. Evidentally, the driver's side needs an entire new back support for $900 installed. This and the two $211 elements make for a pretty big bill just for seat heat.

????warranttee???? Pricing?? I gotta search some more.

Chris

You definitely need to look on ebay. Just make sure to ask questions if unsure of fit and function.

Re: 2001 T&C power door

I have to revise what I wrote. Now, the dealer is calling back saying he made a typo and the door repair is not covered. Its $300 per motor and 2hrs per door for a total of $936.

DIY'ing the doors requires removing the interior panels. Its a 2hr job per Chrysler's book, so, would need to budget extra time.

So, all that's being done to our van is repairing seat heat and door motors. The total bill? $2,000 plus

Chris
