Caught in a bind: 98 Talon TSI AWD or 01 Eclipse GT?
Found 2 very reasonable deals on these two cars (98 talon tsi awd is manual, 01 eclipse gt is sportronic) which I will be test driving this upcoming weekend. However, I feel I'll still walk away flip-flopping from one to another. It seems like the majority on here are fans of the 2G (as am I) but overall just wanted to get an idea of what you guys would suggest? (performance/potential/overall reliability) I always wanted a DSM and now that it's in reach I'd hate to start second guessing whichever I go with. They're both equally appealing. Thanks in advance.

I have exactly the same problem.. AWD GSX vs. V6 GT..
I would say go with the Talon, but I only say that because it's 5-speed vs auto/sportronic.. I love 5-speeds. |

This is just my
3g's suck ass, and you cant call them dsm, because they are nothing like the true dsm, yea 2g's are not realy dsm but we still call them that beacuse they are just like the the true dsm's. If your a dsm fan never ever buy a 3'g, there are the worst thing that ever happend to the name eclipse ok now that i got that out, you cant beat awd if you got a good deal on it, i dont even see why your thinking about a 3'g if you got a good deal on a awd turbo eclipse . the market is big on both cars, but if you get the 2'g it already has turbo and a engine that can hold alot of power, so i would say go with the 2'g

Get the AWD turbo, IMO, the 3Gs are ugly, they don't perform well. Theres so much more potential with the turbo. Get the turbo.

AWD baby, you won't regret it, and when you smoke the 3g on the road, you be happy!

performance AND potential are both far greater on the talon. reliability is the same. Do you get snow in the winter? I would never choose a 3g over an AWD car in that case, either.

Thank you for all the replies, I'll probably end up with the Tsi AWD. How difficult is it to do the Eclipse taillight conversion? I prefer that back end compared to the Talon.
JoeWagon: Yeah, living in good ol' Toronto, I'll have bounds of snow this winter. Last edited by Yungstar007; 11-03-2004 at 06:21 PM. |

Re: Caught in a bind: 98 Talon TSI AWD or 01 Eclipse GT?
The cost of an eclipse bumper, eclipse tail lights.. reverse lights, and some extras like wire to extend the reverse light wires, then some bracket work I believe.
There is no advantage that I see to the 3g, so I would strongly recommend against it. |
