Plans Have Changed...

I found a small 16g for $250 shipped on DSMtrader, and decided that a low mileage s16g was worth another $140 over a higher mileage 14b. So, I'll be going with the small 16g on my car instead of the 14b (if anyone is interested in the 14b, it has yet to come in the mail, but I will be selling it, so pm me).

Too bad I still have to fix the subtle blue smoke on startup...still not sure if it is valve seals or turbo seals (hoping it's the latter!). Should I put the s16g on and see if that fixes it? I seriously doubt it is the turbo, because the car doesn't smoke more under boost, but does it mostly in stop and go traffic or right when I start the car.

Are you sure that the smoke isn't just extra fuel? On startup I can understand darker smoke, and coming to a stop, my car will produce some dark smoke as well.

Good luck with the 16g, I bought one for myself as well. Paid a bit more than you, though Ported big 16g $345 shipped.

You know, you might be right. I've just started to notice the smoke recently, but it may be that I just missed it before. In talking to several of my Honduh friends this weekend, they assured me that cars aren't supposed to puff any kind of visible smoke out of the exhaust. I'm not sure if running too rich would produce the kind of smoke I'm getting...and it's on startup and at taking off from a stop in heavy traffic that the car puffs some smoke. I definitely don't notice any smoke trailing the car while driving, like you would with a blown head gasket.

I think I'm going to try replacing the turbo, and seeing if that helps things. If not, I'll know it wasn't the T25.

Congrats on your own 16g purchase! That is certainly a good deal on a b16g, especially one with all of the port work already done for you. Are you going to be getting a logger to use when you put it on the car? I'm currently investigating logger setups, and trying to decide whether to go with a color PDA or a cheaper grayscale one.

Depends if you're just buying the logger for a few uses and not too serious with your car I'd get greyscale but if you're going to be using it often go for the fancy colour.

Re: Plans Have Changed...

I'm going to drive my car down from Alaska to Colorado next summer, and install my 16g then. To elaborate, it's a Forced Performance Big 16g, ported, clipped, and 34mm flapper modded.

For the rest of the mods, It's a big mess for me. I don't want to try to mess with stock SMIC piping, so I'll get an AGP FMIC. Since I'll get the FMIC then, I'm going to get a tial BOV at the same time, and then I'll want MAFt so I can vent and not need a complex intake pipe.

Might as well do DSMlink/fuel at that time, since i'll have a badass "air" setup, and no fuel to push it. Maybe 720/880/950's, FPR, 255HP/supra pump... who knows.

I have a bent wheel, and warped brakes. Add the wheels I want (secret, nobody better steal my look ) and haven't decided on rotors/pads and if I want lines.

Oh, ACT 2600 when I burn out my clutch shortly after.

Total that I need to save for next summer, about $6500.

You should check your PCV and crank vent lines, if something is cloged it can cause oil to flow the wrong way and get in the intake and cause alittle blue smoke at start up and after a long time at idle and stop and go driving. If you think it does have somethng to do with the PCV then get a new one ($5) and look into getting an oil catch can to go between the head and the intake. If you can tap the end of your intake manifold and provide a stronger vacuum source this helps too!
