wheel bearing sound, which side?

hi,

i got a PA SC 92 and i got a humming sound to which i regognize as being a wheel bearing... when i sway the car from side to side at highway speed , like shifting the weight, the sound is louder when i turn it left.. i mean it sounds louder when i have LESS weight on the left wheel...and more on the right...right

i have heard a few times that the bearing making the noise is te wheel that has LESS weight on it.. now i diagnosed it being the left one.. driver's side.. but the garage thinks its the right one.. as i got the car on a lift and got the wheelas turning at 30 MPG and he toucvhed the coils springs for vibration.. and can i be abosultely sure?

Re: wheel bearing sound, which side?

if you can hear it change speeds in turns...

right turn + noise speed increase = left side
left turn + noise speed increase = right side
right turn + noise speed decrease = right side
left turn + noise speed decrease = left side

Re: wheel bearing sound, which side?

I just changed a wheel bearing on my 94 LeSabre. The method I used was to put the front end on jack stands and pull the wheels, calipers and rotors off. Then I put the car in neutral and went and turned each hub by hand to get a feel for which one was the worn one. It worked. The worn side didn't turn smoothly and I could just tell by the way it felt as I turned it that it was the worn one.
Hope that helps.

If one goes then they both will.. get them both changed, and then alligned. saves you for re-aligment twice..
