Can't decide.. question about the 4g63..

I've been torn between the 00 GT or the 99 GSX..

I like the bodystyle of the 2g much better, and of course AWD is a beautiful thing..

But crankwalk.. I'm afraid of it because it's essentially "unfixable", right? How common is it on the 99 GSX?

dont worry about crankwalk... its a lot more rare then you and everyother civic owner thinks it is! get the GSX. you will be a lot happier with it!

Ok that's what I was hoping.. when you read about it.. it sounds like it hits every GST or GSX motor..

Of course w/ my luck I would get it..

2g Eclipses are my favorite car.. I've wanted one since I was 9 and they first hit the market..

Of course I still need the money to buy one.. and have to actually find one in decent condition.

Re: Can't decide.. question about the 4g63..

any motor can crankwalk... and still a 99 has a better chance if given a reason to crankwalk. remember its still a 7 bolt!

Re: Can't decide.. question about the 4g63..

Definitely go with the 2g GSX, you'll be VERY happy you did . And for the crankwalking thing, it's much more rare than people make it out to be. Hell, my 95 GSX has 130k miles on it, and no signs or symptoms of crankwalk here! And in the rare event that your motor does walk, drop in a 6-bolt (the 4g63 from the 90-92 dsms) and be done with it. A 6-bolt can walk, like any motor, but it has a much less chance than the 7-bolt (93-99). Have fun!!!

Re: Can't decide.. question about the 4g63..

The thrust bearing design was changed in mid 97, for the 98-99 model year cars. You very rarely hear about CW in those cars. Its rare in general, but even more so in those years.

I would never let fear of a little CW convince me to buy a slow POS 3g

I agree with all of this, GO with the 2G you'll be very happy with it. The 3gs just arn't built like the 2gs

My other question is do they make lip kits for the 2g? Winter is not fun up here, I would imagine it'd be even less fun with a full bodykit.

The AWD would certainly help in the snow, however.

you'll prob be more happy and better of w/ the gsx. Dont worry about CW, its a rare thing and can happen to any car. As for the bodykit, if you do put one on, i wouldnt drive it during winter; theres always gonna be one person whose gonna slide and hit you.

Good Luck!

I'm not afraid of being hit.. just that the snow will be too deep and it'll crack.

And yes that is sort of what I meant.. but was hoping for all the way around..

For instance, Civics have lip kits, 3G eclipses have lip kits, etc..

Re: Can't decide.. question about the 4g63..

get the 99 gsx, even in if it does crankwalk, you can always do a 6-bolt swap and be almost crankwalk free.
