Has anyone heard of this?

It's an electric supercharger at www.boosthead.com. They got them for the SOHC and DOHC for a grand. the problem is you need 4 batteries and maybe a high output alternator. Do they work? How much are the batteries? It seems too good to be true cuz the traditional supercharger for it is 4 grand. It looks big as hell, though. I thought I could paste the pics, but don't know how. I guess just look at the site.

Re: Has anyone heard of this?

Why would 3si recommend it in the testimonials? The link to the web site was broken though and they just said superchargers( not necessarily electric), I guess I'll have to buy a VR4 or get a supercharger. I'm just tryin to find out who installed it in theirs and does it work.

I rode in a car that had that same one installed. it does add power, about 60 hp more when turnned on. here is the deal: the SC are actually three starter mototrs hooked up together which blow air to the amount of about 10 psi, the batteries are located in the trunk and charge the system. when you turn on the sc it boosts for 15 seconds then dies. you then have to let it charge for about 20 minutes before you can use it again. its like NOS that never runs out in that you dont have to pay to refill it, but it is only limited to 15 second bursts......not to mentuion the three batteries plus the sc add like 180lbs extra to your car!

Re: Has anyone heard of this?

I guess it wouldn't be worth the money in the long run. You need a custom alternator, there is barely room for the one from the factory. Who knows how much 4 batteries will cost, especially the ones they recommend. Also I hear them talking about not selling turbos cuz of reliability. Are regular superchargers more reliable than turbos?

no, its just that most of thier turbos are done on stock pistons so the boost + high compression = boom

Re: Has anyone heard of this?

IMO the stuff at boosthead isn't really reliable, seeing as how we don't have that prophesized messiah that actually got the Knight supercharger to work, rite musashi ? :-P
