okay guys,
one of my friends bought a JDM b16a for his EK9. He want to know if it possible to make this engine able to rev up to 10000 rpm safely ? however this is his only car for his daily drive to work (( about 100 km from his home )) his budget about 5000$ is that enough to do this?what parts need to be changed ? |

Yes it possible, just get Valve Springs made for that RPM redline, titanium retainers, valves and a really balanced bottom end.

What you'll likely need is valves, springs, retainers, resleeved block. That's all that i can think of from the top of my head. I'm sure theres plenty more you can do.

Re: 10000rpm on JDM b16a
Is he planning on getting cams and/or higher compression pistons too? Because if he's not then there's no point. He won't make any power in the high rpms if he just builds the valvetrain. Sure his motor could withstand being in higher rpms, but it's not going to do anything. There a a bunch of companies that make those engine parts; crower, skunk2, toda, jun, spoon, and more.

<at risk of making himself look like a n00b mode>
An motor spinning at 10k is likely to put an extremely heavy amount of stress on the stock motor mounts wouldn't it? I suppose you'd have to do something about that also. </at risk of making himself look like a n00b mode>

noob alert noob alert, jp
i myself wanna build a motor that can rev up to 10,000 rpms one day, i love the sound of a motor that is revving high. in this issue of HCI, they built a 200whp b16 that was revving up to 9500 and i think it would have made power to 10,000. they had it stage 3 cams, ITBs, it was bored .5mm over, milled head, higher comp pistons. made peak power around 9500 so it easily could ahve been revved to 10,000. i dont think you would want ITB in your daily driver but it was still a cool article, you would need a very high flowing intake mani |

Can I also suggest getting the block blueprinted? Revving that high you want to minamize the movement of the individual parts.

Re: 10000rpm on JDM b16a
I have a video of a B16A EG hatch doing 10000
P+P head Cam, sp, ret Even on a stock airbox. I think not too many mods need to be done to get it 10K, shit thats my goal on a 2nd gen B16A. Near stock, my D16Z6 sees as much as 9000, which is about 1800 past the redline. So a B16A should do it easily. But unless you do have those mods, I would only use that higher redline during 1st, and 2nd gears. It's what I do, unless I'm in a highway race, then I'll use the full 8400(normal rev limit).

Re: 10000rpm on JDM b16a
you dont need to resleeve a b16a; itll handle 10,000rpms fine on the stock sleeve unless you are boosting(even then, because of the b16a's R/S there isnt much side loading force on the cylinder walls). the main thing thatll allow an engine to rev high is valve springs, but id recommend Ti retainers, balanced internals, and cams that will make power that high. high compression pistons arent just for high rpm; they boost overall power, omniman made over 190hp@~9500rpm on stock pistons!
