Can I upgrade to a higher AMP Alternator?
I have a 1990 Honda CRX DX. Ever since I moved down here to Daytona Beach Florida 3 years ago I started to have alternator failures. I bought a new Honda one and it died after one month. I then went to an alternator specialist and he put in a rebuilt Mitsubishi (Hondas alternate) alternator. He rewound the coils and got 75 amps from it. That lasted a year and a half. Since I did add some electrical stuff to the car and use the car at night with headlights and a/c going I contributing the problems to having to have everything on at once. I was wondering does any of you experts out there know of any other alternators that I can put in this car without having and problems? Especially the two wires that has to connect to the electrical system? I'm looking for a good 90 AMP alternator or higher? The alternator specialist is not sure what one to put in that's 90 AMPs or above because he is afraid that if the two wires necessary to connect to the computer (electrical) system is not done right it might cause even more problems. And we all know that the CRX's have electrical isses after 10-12 years. I put an optima battery in the car and a APC volt meter so I can keep track of the problem. Other than this issue, the car has been running FANTASTIC all the years I have had it. This is my first post BTW.....I'm considering selling the car soon as I want to move to Calif next year. I'll post info on the car shortly in case anyone is interested in purchasing it. The price won't be cheap as I spent well over $9,000.00 on it in the last two years alone. Thanks all.
Pics of my car are at my yahoo profile at: http://profiles.yahoo.com/crx_4life

Re: Can I upgrade to a higher AMP Alternator?
Welcome to the forum... Sorry I can't help you, but I know what you're dealing with. I have a rewound alternator from Mr. Alternator and haven't had any problems with it. Since you already spent 9k into your car you should just go ahead and put in a Stinger $500 alternator... guaranteed for life. After viewing your photos, I have to say that you got robbed big time if you spent that much on your car cuz you still have a stock engine with DPFI.

Re: Can I upgrade to a higher AMP Alternator?
I love all these people who say "I'v put $234,465,645,654 inot the car sence I got it" and its basicly stock.
Theres a company that makes a 150amp alt that is direct replacement, dont know who though.

Re: Can I upgrade to a higher AMP Alternator?
a higher amp alt wont effect performance. Drag cars dont even run alts. The higher the output the more drag its going to have on the crank. The higher output wont effect your car because your stock one will put out enough to keep your battery charged and your iggnition system to run off of.

Sorry Guys .......didn't mean to push the wrong buttons on you. But the 9,000.00 I put into the car was mainly to fix him up. I had all the rust completely cut out and replaced new....NO BONDO... New bumper guard and the Paint job is A Black Metalic flake from a Lamborghini 2002 swatch. That was 4,000.00 right there. The car is also Garage keep and clean every day. Installed an AME cold air intake and Greddy Exhaust. I didn't want to mess witht the engine because it is running prefectly and I don't have any desire to race it. I'm the original owner. also added a complete EURO lights conversion. Powerslot brakes and MB Motoring chrome wheels 15". also has green neon lights under the car. The A/C system is completely new...converted to the R134....just to name a few. Adds up pretty fast doesn't it?

Can somebody please just answer my question instead of making stupid imature comments.......half of that 4,000.00 was for the body work my good man and you can't say anything about it being too much because you don't even know what was involved. The paint job had 4 clear coats put on it. You shoould see this car up front and in person. Judging from the reactions and comments I get from people in my area as I drive by is all the indication I need that the car is JUST FINE.
I need to know PLEASE what type of ALTERNATE ALTERNATOR I can add to the CRX without any problems? THANKS !

Re: Can I upgrade to a higher AMP Alternator?
lol, silent knows what he's talkin bout
the grin is because he could probably do all the work himself for less than 500 buxanywho, when i first got my civic i researched the higher amp alternator, because whenever i turn the air on, the headlights dim at night time, and i'm planning to add more interior lighting (cold cathodes under seats, trunk, etc). Here is one i found on ebay, 135 amps for $180+$16 shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW Price isn't terrible, but it's a bit steep for people on a budget (most people with civics are on a budget obviously - no offense lol. I HAVE A LOW BUDGET!). I couldn't find many other alternators, and this one is the lowest price i've found. By your avatar i can see you have a pretty CRX It'd be a shame to put that much into a car to have it break or wreck - take care of it! And i live in ocala, florida jus so ya kno

Re: Can I upgrade to a higher AMP Alternator?
Ok who cares about that shit but just to answer his question take it to a starter/alternator rebuilder shop and have them upgrade it for more amps or whatever..My freind owns a rebuilder shop and when i was doing audio comps. using the 89 integra i had 4 15 inch direct x comp subs and 2 orion beast amps 1 orion mids and high amp and 6 caps and i had my alternator built up by this guy for 50 bucks..Its better to do that then just by a new one for more money well that is if you know any one that does that type of shit..If not get a hold of me and get a second one and send me cash ill have him build them up at your own expense and shipping cost..later
