1.8T duke-out

Whats the best 1.8T german car out there???(oh yeah and there all 5-speeds)

1)Audi A4 1.8t Quattro
2)Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T
3)Volkswagen GTI 1.8T

all 3 cars have the same HP rating of 180HP....

The A4 is in my guess would be the heaviest since its a 4-door along with the Jetta......I think the GTI would be on top

Re: 1.8T duke-out

^I agree. The GTI is going to be the lightest of the three.

I did some research, and and audi is rated at 170 hp, at 3406 curb weight, the jetta is 180 hp at 2974 curb weight, and the GIT is 180 hp at 2932 curb weight. so the GTI and the Jetta are fairly close.

Edit: Dang it want a supra, you posted as I was typing, and yes the audi is AWD

Re: 1.8T duke-out

I would choose the A4...they are real nice looking nowadays and w/body kits like Oettinger...ooo. The Jetta is a girl's car and the GTI is not as good as it could be...but of course it has potential.

Re: 1.8T duke-out

Jetta. I like four doors, but the A4 is just way too heavy.

But the audi is so much nicer on the inside, with luxury comes weight.

Re: 1.8T duke-out

I don't care about luxury, the Jetta already has way more features than I'll ever need.

Re: 1.8T duke-out

yeah, don't get the A4 for performance, unless you replace the A with an S . the 1.8t is easily moddable and chips and ecu upgrades can give a huge improvement over stock for a small price, but in the end, these aren't fast cars. you'll need more than just a $500 chip/ecu upgrade to make these considerably fast. they're just damn heavy as mentioned. for anything else other than speed, the A4 is superior to the rest IMO.

The Jetta GLi 1.8t is a 6-speed, with 4 doors, and much better styling then the GTi IMO. If speed is your only concern, then a GTi is the obvious winner due to its weight advantage (170lbs) and the price difference ($3.5k), but as a daily driver, i'd say Jetta GLi.

The 1.8t is by far one of the most modable engines ever built. Companies like Neuspeed, GIAC, REVO, and APR all have chips that put the 1.8t's hp #s over the VR6 for a fraction of the cost. I've got friends deep into tuning VW's, they are not cars to be taken lightly.

Finally, the days of the 1.8t are nearing its end. The newest C&D said that the new base Audi A4 will have the new 2.0t, with about 200hp, and the mk. V GTi is also reported to have the new 2.0t. VW is in the middle of a crossroads, slowly phasing the VR6 engine out of prodution, and making the turbo engines their only sports engines.

Re: 1.8T duke-out

Well, I think that Volkswagen should keep the VR6 around for cars like the Passat and A6, but the Jetta and the GTI should indeed be using the 1.8T (or new 2.0T) as their top engine.

Re: 1.8T duke-out

i am from mexico and we have the SEAT cars here. there is a model called Leon Cupra-R that has the 1.8T but with 225hp. Seat is a division from Volkswagen. it also has much better looks, and is an around better car than the jetta or GTI, much faster too. runs even with an Audi TT or faster

Re: 1.8T duke-out

That sounds awesome, I wish we had that over here. The Jetta with the six-speed manual transmission is good enough, though. I really hope they stick the 2.0T from the new A3 in the Jetta and bump it up to about 250 HP -- that'd be sick :P
