I have a 95 escort LX and when I get up to about 65 mph the steering is very loose and the car seems to shake. It's drivable at this speed but if I go above 70 it shakes more violently. I shook the tierods with my hand and they didn't budge... Any suggestions??

Re: Car shakes at 65mph
Sounds like tires need balancing.

Re: Car shakes at 65mph
if worse comes to worse it could also be the shocks, or broken springs. If the balancing fails, get it done again and watch them like a hawk, caus it could be the rim thats bent..

Re: Car shakes at 65mph
We inherited a 91 ford with 55k and it was shaking at 65. My husband took it in for an oil change and they said our tire depth was bad on the front tires. So he bought new tires and it fixed the shake. His Uncle who is a mechanic thought for sure it was a balance issue. I would try new tires first.

Re: Car shakes at 65mph
well, did you fix it? My 93 escort, 1.9L did the same thing, but I was told it was the oxogyn sensor. It was then replaced and then no shaking at 60 and above..

Re: Car shakes at 65mph
also take a look at your front/rear struts, those a long process, takes a couple hours to fix them up
