idle revving

My buddy put a vtec and a turbo(disconnected) and new computer in his civic and now when it idles the rpm's rhythmically pulsate like he was tapping the pedal. It's sorta funny, because when he pulls up to a stoplight it sounds like he wants to race.

I think the dork moved the idle restrictor on the throttle body even though I think the idle is computer controlled. He says he moved it back to stock a little.

Is his computer whack? Is this a common problem?

Re: idle revving

could be the iacv, when they get dirty and cloged up itll do that to your idle. could be the throttle cable is on too tight(if he changed the IM). and how did he "disconnect" the turbo exactly? because if he just disconnected the charge pipes im gonna laugh.

Re: idle revving

hahaha, well he said something about disconnecting his vacuum hoses, but to tell you the truth I don't trust him because he doesn't know what he's doing. What are the charge pipes? I wouldn't doubt he did it that way. He has all the parts necessary for a fast car, but is scraping the project because he has no brains. He was basically inspired by 2 fast 2 furious and turned his daily driver civic into wish-it-could-be-driven-daily civic.

thanks for the advice!

Re: idle revving

If he has a vacuum leak it will make the idle eratic.

Charge pipes are the intercooler pipes.

Re: idle revving

tell him to put the pipes back together.. wait no, just tell him to take it all off and buy a stock dx. itll be safer that way. btw disconnecting the charge pipes will overspin the turbo and burn out the bearings. not good

Re: idle revving

Well, his car is certainly strange. There are 2 holes that are plugged. I don't know anything about civics, but it looks like the place where the IACV is supposed to go is siliconed shut. Another vacuum port is pipe tied shut. Notice the ultra ghetto throttle body mount. It has problems but any input as to why the idle is crazy would be great. Also- after revving the throttle and letting it settle back to idle it usually stalls. He says he didn't disconnect any vacuum hoses. I have more pics and can get more info if you're interested. Thanks for any help!
