Quick question.

On another forum someone asked me what would be the fuel consumption on the F1 when it was driving at 240 mph.

I'm sure I read somewhere it was estimated at 4.5 mpg, can anyone substantiate this?

Re: Quick question.

Well, to find out we will have to find out the fuel consumption of the S70/2 at 8300rpm (I think that was number), and figure it into gallons/hour. Then we just fill in the blanks for this equation...

240mph / XXXgph @ 8300rpm = XXXmpg

I am also thinking of those fuel consumption as someone asked me, took a whlie to look for that data. unfortunately there were no record so far in relation to that.

However, in recent talk with Mr flemke on the online, he say just like this : " I couldn't possibly set a new PH standard here. The car has a 90 liter tank and I don't think that I've consumed an entire tankful on any circuit. Mind you, when we did the max-speed(about ten runs together), the fuel gauge needle rotated quite purposefully. In that instance, there was a pair of fuel stations along that stretch of Autobahn, and we visited them twice, as i recall."

So we can a little guess from that point, First the a lap distance of Nurburgring is 5.148Km/h and he said drove ten laps with mention of " purposefully". But we can't assume very apprently the correct answer as he didn't say very clearly as to amount of fuel consumption and max-speed.

so we are able to have it stand under below condition presumptively with based on the data closer to performed in the test.

1. Fuel consumption : 70-liter(because he said " I don't think that I've consumed an entire tankful on any circuit." so with this comment i think i can quess ,which is fuel consumption should be near empty at least.)
Average speed : 150km/h(102.5mph)[ from the reason Formula one car can be driven at average speed 177Km/h at any circuit.]
Ten laps distance : 51.48Km(31.9mile)

Even if it were based on those conditions, we couldn't draw more closer conclusion. If we could know the exact quantity of fuel consumption used during driving of Mr. Flemke, and then guess it easily.

Surely we'd have to also quantify the drag loading on the car at 240mph?

Damn! Wish McLaren were a bit less secretive and a bit more amianable to answering anoraksia!

Nope. Drag is already factored in as part of the velocity the car has reached.

Re: Quick question.

he's right. You can't reach the RPM unless you have already overcome drag!
