cd player
I have a kenwood excelon cd player that cost me $400 new. I havent had the cd player quite two years yet and its already acting up. What happens is at randon, the cd player will just turn off. It loses all power to it. It will however come back on right away, then shut off again. A few seconds later it will come back on, and play for a couple of seconds and shut off again. This time it stays off for about 10-15 seconds and when it comes back on the memory is erased and all settings are lost and it starts the cd over. Does this sound like a problem with the cd player itself or does this sound like a power problem? Everything else in my car works fine...all lights interior lights, everything.

Well I'll be taking my interior apart in about two weeks to install a bunch of stuff, so I'll check the power to it then. I don't think it would be the power though becaus it does the same pattern everytime. I think if it was the power it would be more random than it is. But I guess I'll see. I may end up buying a JVC to replace it if I can't get it working.

Re: cd player
I hope you didn't use wire crimps to attach the wire harness to the deck?... soo many people do this and yes its effective for a little while, but after bumps, they can come loose.. always soder and black tape... best connection there is...

I actually have no idea how its hooked up. I didn't hook it up, it was professionally installed. I'm hoping its the power, because I really don't want to spend the money for a new cd player. But from the way it acts, I'm almost positive its the unit itself thats messed up.

Re: cd player
what i do is this.. separate the strands of wire to be crossed, cross them, then take 2 pairs of each cross strand, cross those.. then solder and put on electrical tape

I don't have a soldoring gun. I'm keeping my hopes that it is just the power wire since the deck was so expensive, but I still have my doubts. Wish I had the time to check now, but I'll get there eventually. It doesn't shut off near as often when I'm using the radio (maybe once), but when I use my cd's its constant. Especially when I turn up the volume. So I'm lost. Not sure what's going on.

I couldn't take out my spare...Too afraid that I'd be shit out of luck if I blew one. And yes I have these tiny little leds that i'm putting in my heater vents. I'm going to mount them on the outside under my dash cover and have the leg inside the vent. Hopefully it'll turn out to look good. I will put neons under my dash and under my seats to light up the floor boards later.

Re: cd player
Same guys that make Viper car alarms and also own Orion, PPI, and A/D/S to mention a few. They've been in the audio bizz for some time now but for some reason are not known since big chain stores don't carry them. It is worth a serious look if you get the chance. Just remember what ever you pick, it is only as good as the time and materials used. If you don't take into account in what your equipment needs and can do, what your vehicle needs, and what material used to build it, it just won't sound as good as it could. The 2 biggest mistakes is using poor material and making the wrong size/style of box. I only use commercial grade HDF and not that MDF commonly found at local lumber yards. It is much more harder and won't flex like MDF. Also, sometimes I use 1" or thicker depending on the rated power.<<<just food for thought.
Check out DEI at www.directed.com I will warn you that their stuff is not flashy in any way, just rock solid.
