more advice needed

ok earlier i asked about what kind of upgrades i should do to my SL to add horsepower, speed, bla bla bla..... So i read the FAQ's, searched around even more and i have a good idea about what to do the ole GT. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about what they did to their car and the results and performance they got out of it. I keep bugging about this because i want to do this the right way because i dont have much experience at all and i know you all do. So if anyone could just tell me what they did to their car and how much the aftermarket parts increased speed.

hmm. the performance mods i've done to my 93 3000GT Base are just Intake and Plenum Spacer. I also did the 60K service, just replaced the clutch and slave cylinder, replaced dash defrost vents, both window regulators, tires, alignments.... So there is a lot of preventative maintenance i've done.

I just wanna get the car in pristine mechanical condition, then i'll begin to bust out the performance mods. Future mods include:

Front & Rear Sway Bars (Addco)
Front & Rear Strut Bars
LSD (limited slip differential)
Downpipe (ek2)
Headers (maybe...not much performance gains here, and its not worth the money...most are ripoffs)
Upgraded Tires (Yokohama, Michelin...)
Possibly the TT conversion.

Honestly, that's just about all the mods for the NAs. You can look at the NA Upgrade Bible stick thread at 3si.org, but i dont' wanna sink much money into performance mods on my base. I'd rather go all out when/if i get a VR4 someday. The potential for power is sooo soo sooo much greater with a VR4 than with the NAs. Our NAs have such a high compression as it is, that Forced Induction accessories are extremely limited (b/c of availability, and also b/c of power limits). With a VR4, so much can be done: bigger turbos, fuel system upgrade, exhaust upgrade, Standalone Engine Management System (EMS). And handling with AWD and 4WS is phenomenally greater than the FWD NA 3000GTs.

but to each his own....just my .02 cents.

good luck!

Pulowski-

My signature below lists the basic upgrades you can do to an SL without going too broke. The only thing left I can do is get a light weight exhaust set up. The things I have done to it definitely make a difference. Before my mods I ran about 10.5 in the 8th mile. After my mods I can break in the 9's! I'm not sure if you know a whole lot about drag racing but thats actually a whole lot of time I was able to shave off.

Also another thing to keep in mind when you mod is always think "light weight". These cars are heavy so anything you can do to reduce weight is a good thing and in turn make you "faster". My aftermarket wheels are about 24 lbs a piece. My old stock chrome wheels were about 35 lbs. So even getting new wheels (if there a lighter weight) can be considered a performance mod.

tweeters and the other four speakers were replaced with Sony Xplode, But I put the factory speaker grill covers over them to keep the interior matching.

The rims were just a hair under $300 a piece. There wrapped in Dunlop SP FM901 Ultra High performance 245/40/ZR18 which were about $155.00 per tire.

The company I bought them from wanted to use my car to advertise the ADR Cypher wheels in their gallery, so I guess this is my cars "15 minutes of fame" http://www.bigwheels.net/car_view.jsp?carPicId=60 The tires they advertise were not the tires I bought though.
