Stalling!!!
i just had come back from a few mile drive and as i get to the top of my driveway, my car shuts off. popped open my hood to get maybe my MAFS plug came off cuz i had just put my intake back in after takin it out. but no, it was fine. i turned my car back on but it stalled out right after it started. so i tried again but this time givin it gas. it reved up to about 4k and slowly dropped to 2 and a half and idled there fluctuated up and down about 100rpm. so i looked at the throttle cable to see maybe if it got stuck and it was loose. the cable was just hangin there so i adjusted it. the car still stalled. then i adjusted that idle screw and now it idles at like 700 or 800 but fluctuates a little. and in order so start it i have to give it some gas to get goin and then its fine. what the hell can be wrong?

Sounds like your having the same problem I'm having. I took it to the local Mitsu dealer to get it checked out. (hoped it was under my warranty policy) - They told me it was my IAC Motor. Should have known, explained the symptoms to a friend of mine (mitsu mechanic last 8+ yrs, ASE Cert+), and he told me thats probably what it was.
My symptoms - Started off very rare, randomly out of nowhere. Seemed to happen after coming from moderate speeds, pulling into a driveway - or if i was going through a parking lot feathering the pedal. Motor would get real choppy, than kill. Watched both gauges glitch back and forth in the second it took for the motor to jump and die. After driving to Northern Cal (i live in southern cali) for work a couple weekends, I noticed it started doing it at EVERY Stop after that. The motor would sputter and die anytime I let the RPMs drop below ~ 600, once the engine warmed up a bit. Right now I hve a 'quick fix' on it. Waiting on my buddy to get an IAC motor for me (Costs about $300) so I can get it replaced, and do away w/ this BS. Hope this helps! ~ Mike |

Re: Stalling!!!
Has the ECU thrown a check engine light? the TPS (throttle positioning sensor) just went in my car. if i didn't have my extended warrenty it would of cost me $700+/-. i had to keep the gas revved the who;e time i was driving it, and had to brakeand gas at the same time. really fucked up my rotors. get that checked!

Re: Stalling!!!
there are times when you have to fork over the money to get things fixed. crazy decided not to fix it for whatever reason, now hes messed up his rotors, probably the transmission, on top of the problem he already had

Re: Stalling!!!
Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!! this all happened in less than one day! It's a 15 mile drive through Tucson, AZ for me to get to the nearest dealership.i didn'twait to get it fixed at all. so dont think that i just put off taking care of my car at all.in my life only two thing take priority over my car, and that is my college, and family guy! I only had to pay $116 to have the worked done. turns out they also had to replace my transmission mounts... they were all broken. must of been when i was rallying my car through the desert. i kicked a ford expidition's ass! as well as a lancer, and impreza! I wouldn't recomend doing that though. i know i will never do it again, until i get a rally lift on it, and a few other thing's!
