help picking new car
I am wanting to buy a new car i have between $5000-$7500 to purchase the car and will save for the engine parts. I was wondering which would be a better car to race.I am plannin on putting at least 5-6 grand in the engine. I like both the acura integra and the honda prelude i am wondering which would cost less to make a 11-12 sec car that will make a good daily driver thanks sorry if im in the wrong forum.

Re: help picking new car
Why a Honda?
It would take way too much time, effort, and money to put those into the 12s.

Re: help picking new car
I think a turbo, i/e/h/c, and a damn good driver can drop a teg GS-R or, if lucky enough, Type R into the high to mid 12s? I say look on Autotrader for a GS-R or Type R, if thats what you want. Personally, I'd go with a 1st or 2nd Gen Eclipse GS-T or GS-X, but thats me.

Re: help picking new car
If you do all of that to a Teg GS-R or Type R, I'm sure you could get it into the 12s. I'm not that knowledgable on Asian Imports, but I'm pretty sure that would work. Personally, I know I'll cath flack for this, but I'd go with a 'Teg, I think they look better than RX-7s, but thats just me.

Re: help picking new car
well your best bet would be either like a gsr or maybe even civic si if you want handa/acura. that rx-7 most likely has some major problems if its going for that cheap though

Re: help picking new car
geez, it'll cost way more than 5-7k to get a teg into 12 including cost of car, just get a 1g DSM all wheel drive turbo, or maybe mk3 Supra turbo might not hit 12's but you'll be fast from a roll if you mod it right.

Re: help picking new car
a twin turbo rotary must be rebuilt at about 90,000 miles. and a rebuilt will cost like 3 times the price of a piston engine.

ha it doesn't need to be rebuilty at 90k miles, if it was properly maintained and not abused it can last longer than a piston engine plus Quote:

Re: help picking new car
1G DSM if you wanna go that low and still have a 11-12 sec street car. Talon Tsi AWD, Eclipse GSX, etc. 1G DSM's might not look that great compared to the 2G's, but dont have as many issues as the 2G's. Remember...6-bolt is better if you want those times. 2G's and later 1G's have 7-bolt. Anyhow, good luck choosing a car, but 11-12 second reliable, cheap, and good looking cars are very hard to find for even 8K of investment. Good luck!

Re: help picking new car
I personally dont like the 1st gen DSM's sure they are cheap and get real fast fro real cheap, but to me they are pretty ugly, not real ugly but nany cars that arent much more look WAY better IMO, like the 2nd gens, the 5th/6th gen civic, the 2nd/3rd gen integras, preludes lok pretty good but I dont like the dash in the 92+.
I KNOW you can get a GSR into the 12's with a turbo, but not on the stock internals, the engine cant handle enough boost stock to hit 12's. Id say high 13's would be attainable on a stock engine with bolt ons and a turbo, maybe low 13's if its tuned GOOD and the boost is on the upper end of the "safe" range. but GSR's arent cheap, can get good deals sometimes, especially on east coast. also, why 96+ thats when they went OBD2, I would stay with the 94-95 GSR or the pre 92-95 ludes so you dont have to mess with it, I have never actually read a good reason why, bit its mentioned alot that OBD2 is just more of a pain when modding/tuning, the computer is more strict about what it will let you do or something like that. not 100% on that though
