400 engine, tranny to be placed in an 82 TA

have a 400 bb Pontiac, has 6X heads , 292 Lanati Cam, right now has 4 bbl intake(stock), but have a Preformer pontiac, in shed, wonder what Hp it will make with a 600 edlbrock, it and a pontiac 350 turbo tranny to place in an 82 TA ?

Ok that's a good start, what I need now is valve size, type of head design(combustion chamber design, wedged, pancake, hemi, canted)

Also, compression ratio, size of carb, rocker ratio, lift of cam and durations.

With that info, I could give you a good estimate. I pluged some basic info in, and came up with 271 hp and 410 in torgque.

well the base hp for the 75 400 was 200 hp, with 325 ft lbs torque.

Well the engine is in, only small problems, motor mounts(had to be altered), crossmember(altered only a little),kept original tailshaft placed on the pontiac tranny,there will be exhaust changes, of course,relocate the oil filter,cut the fan shroud,minor harness changes, and soon she'll be cookin

Indian Adventures in Mass makes a nice set of headers for the swap.
The 200 horsepower is NET, not "brake". That engine makes about 275 at the flywheel. The Lunati cam is too big for Performer and a little carb. It's also a single pattern (intake and exhaust equal). This is not the hot lick for the Injun.
The 6X heads, stock, have 2.11 intakes and 1.66 exhaust. Nominal chamber volume is 98 CCs (on a 400 version).
Get Jim Hand's book "How to Build Max-performance Pontiac V8s". It will clear up a lot of the myth and superstition. You can find it at Performance Years (performanceyears.com), Boyleworks.com/musclecars, and normal book outlets.

After popping the numbers I came up with 277416, at the fly. However, I didn't put in the actual specs for the came.

In response to MrPBody, since you already have the cam, and it's a single pattern. If you wanted to create a dual pattern valve, you could change out your exhaust rocker, increasing the ratio will change how the valve reacts to the cam. If you do take this into consideration, ensure that you have enough clearence, valve to piston.

Personally, sounds like you have a real solid engine, if you can find the specs out for the cam, I can plug them. I wouldn't worry so much about changing you performance parts you just bought, it'll make an awesome engine.

The cam is still TOO BIG for the intake/carb combo. It may sound cool, but it won't have enough flow to use it to the maximum capability. If you MUST use that cam, get Performer RPM and a Holley 750/800. A good set of headers is necessary.

I am guessing the duration is around 292, that's why it's called a 292 cam. MrPbody does have a point. If ether one of the durations is 292, and you are running stock on the rest of the engine, your actually doing it worse then good.
to explain, if you are still at "factory" compression, you won't be compressing the charge that is in the chamber. Producing less horse power. This is due to the valve being open longer w/ a lower compression ratio then what is require. Your compression ratio and duration will go hand and hand, along with a lot of other parameters. Just keep that in mind.

I have to disagree with the large carb, I don't believe that it would prove useful. At the most, you would be loosing vaccum signal and still not produce the horse power. MrPbody, let me know what you think?

If it where me, and I just so happen to come along a 78 400 w/4spd, and granted that the engine is for the most part, internally stock, I would put in a less agressive cam, you would see a power change, for the good.
