Heater, A/C, De-Froster All Just Quit

1999 Grand Am 65000 Miles

My wife came home from work and she said her cars A/C, Heater and defroster all quit working. So I went and looked and it does nothing doesn't blow any air what so ever. I tried it on every option available. Does anyone know what it could be?

Sounds like either the fan motor or the resistor went out. The resistor is a common problem and costs about $40 from a dealer. The motor may have also gone bad but it should have been noisy before it went. Check the main fuse/relay under the hood to make sure it didn't blow. That may be the easiest way to solve the problem. If it is good then check the above items and the problem should go away.

I would love to check for them but I kinda have a problem I don't know where there are. I don't have a book and my local autozone or shucks. They don't have any copies either. I would like to get it fixed so my wife can drive her car again so she doesn't have to drive my truck.

The fan and resistor are located under the dash on the passenger side of the vehicle. Usually toward the middle of the car. The fan should come out with three small bolts and the resistor should be right next to it. The fuse should be located either in the power distribution center under the hood or there is usually a 20 amp fuse in one of the fuse panels on the sides of the dash. Check your owners manual as it should give you a diagram of the fuse panels and what each fuse controls. Check these first as they are a lot easier to check and change than the fan or the resistor. Hope this helps.

I know on a 1993 grand am the resistor is in the engine compartment
on fire wall or plenim(sp) and so are the relay.
