Exclamation It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

Hey,
I keep on having a recurring problem with my Civic dx 93 coupe.
Whenever i run it for a while and come to a stop the car stalls and then turns off. It doesn't happen all the time,
only when i have been driving for a long period of time or when i step on it and come to a stop.
It doesn't turn off if i keep my foot on the brake and give it a little gas, but i think that might be bad 'cause it overheated one time (and i think it was 'cause of that)
CAN ANYONE HELP ME?
They had told me it might be the fuel pump relay but i had it checked and no preassure drop off apeared, so they said it was fine?
Anyone with the same problem or a SOLUTION!!!!
Much thanks in advance.

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

so i am guessing you have an auto tranny? if so, have you tried shifting into neutral and see if it still stalls out?

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

I do have automatic....
nice car BTW.
nope i will try it today,
it's been annoying me 'cause it has turned off twice on the Freeway and of course that is a big hassle.
By the way, when it turns off, i have to let it rest for at least a minute, and then it turns back on. Otherwise, it sounds like it turns on but dies right away. Have you had the same prob?

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

This sounds kind of strange... when it stalls on the freeway is this under decelleration, or while cruising? What happens if you try to start it up right after it stalls? I have never had this problem but I know a lot of people have had similar problems on here.

Thanks for the compliment on the car... its my little toy. Always changing something or another it seems.

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

that does sound like a fuel problem.

when they tested your relay, did they say they didn't see a voltage drop or a pressure drop in your fuel system?

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

Check your injectors, it's pretty easy to do. Pull all four of them out of the rail and let them dangle over a bucket or something. Have a buddy turn the key to try and start it, and make sure fuel is misting equally out of each one. I'd say try this right after coming home since that seems to be when the car dies a lot..

I'd also try swapping spark plugs whether that's the problem or not because it's only a $5 stab in the dark. If your fuel pump is overheating, you may have to spend a pretty penny there. New oem pumps cost around $70-$100+ depending on where you buy one. Let me know what you do and I can help with the fuel pump install (done it three times).

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

I'm guessing they have all been intank fuel pumps. How hard is it? I may have to help a buddy out with it when i go home this weekend. Installing a Walbro 255lph pump in preparation for a turbo.

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

It stalls during deceleration.
I'll try checking the injectors, also...
i just checked it abut 10 mins ago and one of the spark plugs is extremely tight, i don't want to keep on trying to take it out, afraid it will break.

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

does all of your electric shut off too? like radio, lights, all that sort of stuff, or just the engine? Does your battery light ever flicker while driving or coasting? My bro had an issue w/ his ground cable off the battery, and it caused his car to shut off a couple times, and the battery light flickered when decellerating. Just an idea...

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

^totally forgot about that, Civics have a bad habit with their battery grounds going bad. Unscrew that ~6" black wire coming off the battery to the metal, wire brush it and the actual wire connector and screw it back on. I had to do this to my car because it just plain wouldn't start at all and it started up right after doing that. If this doesn't help consider it some good maintenance anyways

GS, it's fairly easy if you have common sense and any knowledge of basic tools. You'll have to pull up his rear seat and you'll see a metal cap. Take that off with 3-4 phillips screws and push it aside. You'll see a circle plate with like eight 10mm nuts holding her on there.

The pump is connected directly onto this plate underneath, remove it very carefully or you'll brake off the primary filter connected to the inlet hole on the bottom of it. I tried forcing mine out of the tank and that fucker broke off.

Nobody (not even junkyards) sells a full pump assy with the filter included so I had to buy a whole new tank for like $100 from a junkyard.

Make sure to cover up the tank hole with a rag or something or you'll get a nice free buzz.. if you're stupid you'll light up a cig too.

Unpinch the hose clamp connecting the filter to the cap, pop off the wire connector, and take off some stupid little metal ring off that filter (carefully with needlenose pliers) to get it off the pump.

Plug the new pump into the wire connector and fuel hose, put the filter on the inlet hole, and pop that ring back on top of it.

After that, carefully push it back into the tank and screw the plate back on. It's a time consuming bitch where patience is the key, but it's a cool learning experience I guess. need_fast_civic, hopefully this helps you if you decide you need a new pump. Anybody can pm me if you have more questions, like I said, I've done this quite a few times, but on the 96-00 models. The older ones should generally be the same way.

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

Nice, the lights saty on, but the radio goes off. I dunno it's weird.
I just put an Intake on it today. (after lunch) and it sounds really nice.
I tried the whole put-it-on-neutral deal and that worked, it didn't turn off. But still, that doesn't fix the problem, it's just a quick solution.
Thanks, i'll check the ground wire.

Re: It Turns Off!!!!!!!!!!

i would say it could be as simple as having too low of an idle if it wasnt for the whole not starting for a few minutes after the stall thing... so you are not getting a check engine light or anything with this?
