Question Front wheel bearing

Hello, I hava a 94' LeSabre and I can hear a wheel bearing going out. Does anyone know how difficult it is to change one of these on this car?

Thanks for any info.

Re: Front wheel bearing

The wheel bearing is located in the spindle, behind the rotor and is held on with 3 T55 bolts. To get at it, you will have to remove the rotor, seperate the lower control arm, and pull the spindle off the drive shaft. That involves seperating the ball joint and dampening strut that is attached to the lower control arm. Moderately difficult operation.

You also may want to re-investigate into if the noise is indeed coming from the wheel bearing. The front disk brakes do make a intermittant metalic noise when the pads get worn low that can be confused with a wheel bearing like noise. A bad wheel bearing on the other hand will cause the wheel not to spin true and cause shaking.

Re: Front wheel bearing

Thanks for the response, Yogi. Just out of curiosity, why do you have to seperate the lower control arm? All I did was pull the caliper and rotor, spindle nut, and then the three bolts holding the hub assembly. After that I was able to pry it off(looks like I could have used a puller too, but didn't have one), clean it all up and pop in the new one.

Thanks again.

Re: Front wheel bearing

When in doubt, get a hammer and a straight screwdriver. You can accomplish anything with a hammer and a straight screwdriver. It might not be necessarily productive, but you'll sure feel like you accomplished something afterwards.
