Rally Race in Washington State March 2 & 3

Just an advance notice for all youse guys in the NW:

Some of the best rally roads in the western hemisphere will be put to use on Olympic Peninsula Saturday & Sunday, March 2 & 3 at the SCCA DooWop Rally.

Real, race prepped rally machines: EVO's, WRX's, an AWD turbo New Beetle, a 500-hp fire-breathing Volvo 240, old 510's, RX-7 turbos & more, all driven at the buried-throttle, tail-swangin' limit on gravel logging roads (plus 4 stages on public county roads).

The car I usually navigate in (an AllTrac Turbo Celica) is anxiously awaiting new suspension bits from Australia, but if we don't make it onto the entry list, I still can't wait to get pelted by gravel as I spectate.

Please DO come say hello if you see me spectating (tall, gangly mid-30's guy with an asian woman in a Pearl G20t)!!! I hope y'all come....no disappointments.

Follow the DooWop links at www.nwr-scca.org

-Regards, Don

No charge to spectate at a rally (well, New Zealand & the UK rallies are attempting to charge $, but are meeting mucho resistance).

The only "seating" will likely be a fallen log next to the stage roads (bring a folding chair & umbrella) and you'll need to bring some munchies & warm clothes, but it's fun trying to get from one stage to another with all the other crazed spectators. Last event I was at, one fan brought out a road-spec Ford Escort Cosworth and another brought a road-spec Lancer EVO VI Tommi Makinen Edition ...... just to haul friends from one corner to another while spectating!!!

C'mon out everyone... we wanna see some G20's there !! -Don

Yep we get charged for WRC spectating, but it's only like NZ$10 for a whole day or NZ$45 for all three days including the Super Special Stages in the stadiums.

Be careful out there - best to stand near something substantial (tree or big rock) to duck behind if needed.

Just wanted to get this back at the top of the thread list since the event is this weekend. For those who are interested, this rally race is tomorrow and Sunday (March 2nd & 3rd). I plan on attending tomorrow and possibly Sunday as well.

I hope some of you are there, i'll be driving up either late tonight, or early morning. I can't wait, its gonna be a blast! For those of you who can't make it, i'm gonna film as much as possible
I'll be rolling a Lincoln Town Car so I have a place to sleep. Gotta love them huge American cars.

WooooHooooo!!!

The car's gonna be ready for the rally!! We just sent in our last-minute entry since the new DMS suspension is finally in on the Celica.

Glad some of you are coming out to watch the event. You won't be disappointed!! Some of us are just mid-pack or slower, but watching the fast guys is a blast.

Please make a point of saying hello at parc-expose or a service area.
My buddy Nao & I are the rank amateurs in the Red AllTrac Celica Turbo, with the SCCA #202 on the doors. I'll be the terrified one carrying around the pacenotes.

Recommendation: Show up at scrutineering, parc-expose or a service area (all open to public) to see how some of these cars are set up (roll cages, suspension, engines). Hard to resist if you like performance cars.

See ya in da woods.

TRBOBRK we passed you at a 4-way stop right after the end of Stage 5. My girl was asking what the red mirrors were all about, I set her straight. At stage 5 did you happen to see a white-boy in a big blue jacket getting sprayed with gravel about 5 feet to your right.......

Stage 1

That you?

I talked to a guy that had a digital camera and he emailed me some pics. I post them later along with video if I ever take a break from playing PS2 and work on it.

Thats me all right, but it sucks I never had a chance to say hello.
Damn I had a blast! I have major plans to be a contender next year.
I plan to buy a broken down B13 and swap the sr20 out of my P10. Then its thrashing time

Nice pics!!!!!

Thanks, guys!!!!

As much fun as it is to fly through the forests in the Celica, it's still a huge blast to spectate.

In fact, we can't wait 'til the NATIONAL event, Oregon Trail ProRally

www.oregonrally.com ,

where all the top teams from both coasts (& scores of EVO's, Cossies & WRX's) will be.

We'll be in the woods spectating ....hope to see ya.

I didn't see a G20 so I figured no one was there. I forgot you rode up in a towncar.

I ended up not making it down on Saturday but went on Sunday instead. Spent a lot of time waiting because the 3rd stage was delayed an hour, but it was still loads of fun. I gotta say, it looks like a LOT of fun to be a driver. Oh, and i really want a Lancer EVO now after seeing the EVO IV run on Sunday. That thing FLIES!
