Z31 n/a with boost...

ok guys...i was doing some hard core thinking and seaching for a second car that i can use as a daily driver. well...i came across this 86 2 seater 300zx but it needs some engine work but the body is pretty solid besides alot of chipped paint on the bumpers. no rust, just some mississippi sand. the car came from mississippi. anyways...im not looking to make this any sort of a huge project or anything anytime soon. just want to get a good runner.

but i was thinking this....the n/a z31 is only running a 9:1 compression ratio. that is not a bad compression ratio when it comes to forced induction. now my question is, wouldnt the engine be able to handle the stock 6psi that the turbo model has. and this would give a pretty decent jolt in power. what do you guys think??? not a plan or project,....just wandering.

i heard that you can boost up a z31 but its to expensive to were you'll end up spending more than what the car is worth.

I have a 86 na and it does feel like it could use a boost but the compression on a turbo of that year is lower. If it was around $1000 give or take they would have a customer.

You'd be fine. I wouldn't go much higher just to be sure, but you could probably pull it off.

I know you're not looking for a project or anything...hope this doesn't change your mind...

Guy I've been talking to for a little while...helped me plan for my project. Cool guy. His car sounds like a piece of work, too. All he did was bore it out to 3.3L, do some head work, put a turbo on it running stock boost and install a WRX I/C. 221horse, 291tq at the wheels. He'd give you stock Z32TT guys a GOOD run for you money right now...and if he upped the boost to ~12-14 psi...hold on for dear life...

His pics didn't work for me right now, so try again later...has some cool pics of his intercooler and intake work...kinda clever the way he worked it all in...it's very simple...

thanks LLTZ...i thought it might work if you ran pretty low boost beings the compression is only 9:1. i dont plan on doing it. just plan on getting mine running.

K3 I just happen to have a complete turbo set-up for a Z31, with 'bout 35,000 miles on it. All I need to do is find it in all my stuff.
