1996 cavalier wont start by ignition

I have a problem with my cavalier, I have a 1996 cavalier that had a 2.2L motor in it and someone put a 2.0 in it, I talked to my mechanic and he said that they were capatible. The car will not start with the switch, but it will start when you strike the wire cross the starter. I even jumped the clutch wires to see if it would start then, but will not. has anyone had any problems like this.

they probably kept the 2.2 starter and didn't put the 2.0 starter in it. The flywheel size my not turn the engine fast enough or the ignition doens't have enough current/juice

I found the problem, I put a new ignition switch in it and it started. I need new injectors for it, they are plugged up tight.
