97 Jetta GLS - Window Regulators
I've been looking for a used Jetta for my wife (to use as a commuter car) for the past few weeks and I finally found a 97 that is in excellent shape with 90K miles that I'm considering buying tomorrow. The only problem with it was that the front drivers side and both rear windows needed new regulators and/or motors. The girl selling the car got an estimate of $330+ per window from her mechanic. I'm thinking that I can replace the regulators/motors myself, but I got a rather expensive price from my local Checkers Auto Parts store ($235 for just the motor and they can't get the regulators).
My question is, does anyone know of somewhere on the web to get these parts cheap without going to a junkyard? My second question is: Is it worth the $4000 I negotiated the price down to or are these cars endless money pits? I was looking for something cheap and reliable. |

Re: 97 Jetta GLS - Window Regulators
Ebay has some regulators.
I don't know if I would recommend a jetta with 90k as a reliable commuter car. They have their quirks. I got a 96 GLS with 90k two years ago. So far it has cost me about $1500 to keep it running. I paid $3000 for it, but got a good deal. I probably should have paid between 4 and 5 G's. Thats still better than making a lease payment. This is just my opinion. I like my jetta becuase it is quirky and I like to work on it. Not sure If I would trust it for my wife to drive everyday. |
