Unhappy How do I use the overdrive?

I just recently got a used '99 Ford Contour sport and the shifter is on the console and the overdrive button is on the side of the shifter and I dont have a book on the car so I dont know when or how to use the overdrive. Can someone help a lady out?

When you push the button on the shifter and a little light on the dash comes on that means that overdrive is off. That is used for hills and passing cars, but is not necessary because you have an automatic transmission. When the light on the dash is off overdrive is on and you get better gas mileage. So I wouldn't get too concerned with turning it off unless you're racing or in the mountians.
