All-
First off.... Yes, I am a noob, so please no flames. Why are our motors called hybrids? What makes it a hybrid? I've read the FAQ's and tried searching, but searching either brought up too many responses due to hybrid being in a lot of posts or nothing at all if I tried searching with a phrase. Thanks. ps: Been lurking for a couple weeks now soaking up info. I'd go into what I want to do to my lowly dx, but enough ppl seem to do that. I'll post again if I actually do it! |

Re: the most BASIC question you've ever read!!!
Hybrid? We don't own hybrids unless if u want to call them that. They're more of economy cars meaning they get great gas mileage. Mine is the 70 hp (42 mpg regular) base version which is a pure example of that.
And a hybrid is an half engine- half electric engine motor. They both work with each other to compensate for gas mileage, like shutting off the unneeded cylinders, idling lower, using electricity when needed. But our cars are in now way hybrids. And last but not least, Welcome to the forums!

Its kind of an old school term. It means you have a motor in your car that was never available in that car. If you have a CRX, it only came with a 1.5 or 1.6 SOHC motor. If you put a 1.8 DOHC in, then your car is a hybrid. Get it

well, if your swapping other motors or their parts then your engine is a hybrid too. Thanks Sikocivic for reminding me about that one. I just thought u meant the hybrid gas cars. Oops.

Re: the most BASIC question you've ever read!!!
Hi Noob! Welcome.
Hybrid may also refer to mixing different engine type components. Example, putting a D16Y8 SOHC VTEC head on a D16A6 engine block. This hybrid is commonly refered to as a "Mini-me". |
