93' speedometer

The speedometer in my 93' LT1 equipped station wagon only lights intermittently. All other gauges except the turn signals work. All fuses have been checked and are good.I've checked the wiring to the vehicle speed sensor and cannot induce the problem so I suspect there isn't a break in the wiring. There also is an output signal as measured at the PCM from the VSS. Occasionally the speedometer will light very dimly and I can see that it is displaying the appropriate speed. Anybody else have this problem? What did you do to correct it? What should the next step be?

Thanks, Binderboy

Could you be a little more specific about the problem. Does the dash lighting only not work for the speedomete or does the whole dash lighting not work?

Re: 93' speedometer

These digital displays are know for failing like this. Solder connections work loose. Sometimes it can be as simple as removing the dash assembly and cleaning the contacts and re-installing.

I want to know more about this 93 LT1 equipped wagon, especially since GM didn't produced one until 94.

Re: 93' speedometer

I have to confess that I don't know much about the engine. I had it into Chevrolet and the service guy said "WOW! that's the LT1 engine, same as the Corvette"
Just the speedometer and the turn indicator don't light up. All the rest of the gauges light.

Re: 93' speedometer

Sorry but one of you is really confused. Your car would have to be a 94-96 to have the LT1 engine.

Back to the display: As I said before, they are known for failing in such a manner. I have a friend with a digitial dash in a Blazer. He found a place on ebay that would sell him a reman'd unit or reman his unit for a reasonable price. You might head there to check for something like that...
