Will I be wasting my money?

The next truck I'm getting is going to be an 03, or 04 xtracab v-6. At frist, I really wanted 4WD, but now I'm not so sure. I don't plan on doing any really heavy offroading. I live in Las vegas, so any off-roading I'll do will be in the desert. Either way, I'll get the TRD package on it. So, with that said, you think I'd be wasting my money getting 4WD, if I only plan on doing some minor offroading? Thanks for any input.

In as long as you are running the hardpan a prerunner should do it. Alot of those desert racers are 2wd. Funny thing about wheelin though is that it is addictive. You want more and more. Soon enough you might end up stuck wishing for 4wd. I would get it. Even in the desert things can get tough. Its also handy when you have to pull your buddy out.

I'd think that the first truck you find that really suits you needs - PreRunner or 4WD - would be perfectly fine. 4WD will be a bit more expensive, but will also add a bit of resale value down the road. Good luck!

I confess that I bought my '04 in June and have yet to engage 4wd.

I have a 03 trd prerunner. With the electric locker in the rear it does just fine. my girl friend 99 jeep wouldnt climb the ditch in my yard.I tried to go up it at a angle. the left rear tire was off the ground,and the front right tire was just spinning. i had to get a running start to get up it. with my pre runner the left rear tire was off the ground.i hit the locker button and it went right up the ditch. If i had the choice i would like to have the 4wd but i couldnt afford the extra $
