'91 Grand voyager woes!
Many questions, I hope for some good answers!
My '91 3.3 grand voyager has started what I believe to be misfiring. I don't think it is a transmission problem and the car doesn't stall, it just runs on Kangaroo juice! sometimes it's fine (not very often) other times it jumps at medium revs. If I remove my foot from the gas pedal it runs smoothly, if I put my foot to the floor it jumps a bit, hesitates and then accelerates. I think it either an ignition or fuel issue. How do I remove the rear plugs - it looks like a nightmare. how many fuel filters are there, and where are they located. Can the ignition timing be out (the distributor doesn't look adjustable). Also, can these jobs be done by an ametuer like me? where exactly is the air-con unit so I can check the level, the air con does not get cold. And lastly, the computer in the overhead console is just blank, is there a backlight that might have gone or is it an entire sealed unit? Many thanks. Mike |

Hope this helps...
If the van hasn't had a full tune up for a while I would try that first. My '94 was doing the same thing and I took to dealer ($400 later) and it ran great. They did the plugs (which I tried once myself and it's a pig to do the back ones unless you have a hoist) wires, cleaned injectors and throttle body. The fuel filter is easy to change yourself. It's located under the passenger side rocker panel. The fuel system is under a little pressure so disconnect the neg battery terminal first, then make sure you have a few rags ready when you take the clamps off. Th ign timing is done by the computer so there is no adjustment. The a/c does not have a level indicator. The only way to check is with a pressure gauge which has to be done by an a/c mechanic. PS- if the a/c has a leak they cannot "top up" the a/c until it's been fixed.(law) |

Re: '91 Grand voyager woes!
Bellguy is right here, but I have found a solution to the rear plug access without a hoist or rear bottom entry.
Take the front motor mount bolt out. It is very easy. A jack is handy to balance the engine and take the weight off o the bolt. Let the engine rotate forward ( twist ), and you can get to the plugs from the top. Works great, and very quick also. You really need to do this if you are replacing the alternator also. GL DNO. |
