Cant hit 5,000k or above

I ran out of gas a few weeks ago, put 8 gallons back in and the engine wouldnt run. I found the rotor had somewhat melted where the screw attaches to the distributor and the timing belt had jumped a couple teeth. Other than that, everything else looked fine. Reset the timing belt, installed new rotor, cap, plugs, Autozone checked the coil and said it was fine, and I set the timing to 16 degrees with a timing light. Fuel pressure is good and is at 38psi and I have free flowing fuel into and out of the rail.
Now whenever I mash on it and get the rpms to 5k or above it bogs down, runs like ass. It runs fine cruising around town and when I gun it in neutral I can run it past 5k with no problems. No codes on the ecu and I have pulled the battery cables off a couple times.

Mine did the samething. I keep get'n different results. Mostly i've been told it was either a bad dist. or bad fuel pump. I did run out of gas 5 times already

Re: Can hit 5,000k or above

My fuel gauge is always wack but that's cause I fill it to where the pump will stop and then round off the nearest cent. I think I've kinda altered the fuel reader a little cause I could leave home with a full tank, drive around town with about 3/4 of a tank and then back home I'd have a full tank again. It's weird how it all works but luckily I've never ran out of gas.

Re: Can hit 5,000k or above

Could also be that when the tank run dry the pump picked up some concentrated crude from the bottom of the tank and wore the pump rotor?

Re: Can hit 5,000k or above

Turned out the tensionor slipped off one of the pegs when I tightened it back up. Was getting ready to check valve lash and noticed the 16 degree mark wasn't lined up with the timing cover mark while both cams were in the up position. #3 & #4 spark plugs were black while #1 &#2 were nice and clean. Set the timing again, new plugs...8000rpm all day long. Idle is hunting and no vtec but I ran outta daylight.
