rebuilt blazer losing oil
Cant find a previous thread I started on this subject, so heres another..
96 blazer has no oil leaks, so it must be burning it, about 1.5 quarts per 3000 miles. running Amsoil synthetic.. Talking to the guys that warranty the engine, they said try going back to standard oil, and the burning should go away? Is this BS? Why would synthetic burn, and not regular oil? |

This is bullshit.
Take it back to them and tell them to fix it. Unless it is still breaking in. How many miles on the rebuild?

Take is back.
37k means it should be perfectly broken in and the rings should be seated. Amsoil does not cause oil leaks , shitty workmanship does.

Take it back--they need to back up their workmanship. Trying to lay blame on oil is just a cop-out. With 37K the rings should be seated, and all o-rings and seals will have swelled to their specifications so they cannot use that as an excuse.

Exactly, they will try to bullshit you to get you confused and to delay you beyond your warranty time.
If they refuse, talk to a lawyer and the BBB. Take action quickly and get them working or they will screw you over.

Changing from different oils does sometimes create oil leaks. Sounds weird but it happens, especially with thinner oils like amsoil or valvoline, I'd try standard oil first. Just my 2 cents

Do you know exactly what was replaced during the rebuild? Were the heads and valves rebuilt? Was a short block used with your old heads? Look at your receipt. Were valves, valve seat grinding and valve guides included?
If you have new rings with old valves your oil could be sucking into the cylinders through the valves, which Like BlazerLT says is shitty workmanship. This is only a guess, but you are loosing a lot of oil! Get this truck back to them IMMEDIATELY! You probably only got a 50K warranty! Good Luck and keep us posted! |

I have seen a few rebuilt engines that where using synthetic oil have a very long break in peroid and never seat the rings. I was always taught to break in a new or rebuilt with reg oil then switch to synthetic after about 3000 miles .

He has 37000miles on the new engine and it should be properly broken in 4 times over by now but if he has been using synthetic since he got it back at 0miles, he might been better off to break it in with conventional.
wonder if he is ever going to post back or is he another one of the morons that post a question and then don't ever come back to look at the answer.

No kiddin hey about a response. With 37K that motor should be broken in no matter what. I for one would have never waited 37K.
