Bad new for all you "american import" haters

http://carpoint.msn.com/advice/news_4020942_6.asp

basicly says the 2003 Neon SRT-4 is a turbo i4. 205 hp 220lbs of torque. 0-60 in 5.9seconds. the integra gs-r did 0-60 in 7.2 if i remeber correctly.

wow thats really... pitiful... hp numbers for a turbo car. why dont they try to do some actual engineering instead of just bolt on a turbo? oh well im not worried, ive whooped 200 hp neons before, hell i beat a 230 hp neon. so i doubt its the fastest sub $20k car. maybe if u go by published times.

Heh heh, i never heard of someone calling them "American Imports" before. Sounds funny. I guess you're not North American.

Yeah, this thing's crazy. it will put a lot of jap cars to shame you gotta admit.

But you know, in the end it's still a neon.

If they could build a "reliable" turboed neon, then I would be really impressed.

you kids fail to realise that dodge has made some of the more reliable turbo cars in the past, using technology gained from their long standing partnership with mitsubishi.

Omni GLH, Conquest TSi, Eagle Talon, Stealth...

And now their controlling interest in Mitsubishi.

Although, I had a turbo Dodge catch the engine on fire on me... but it was my parent's minivan, so good riddance!

well, since mitsubishi's reliability is not that great either, dodge wouldn't be. yes, mitsubishi is japanese, but in my opinion due to some facts i've seen, which include having cousins that owned mitsubishi's before, they aren't that reliable. a lot of people i know regret purchasing one...

you say that you don't go by published times... but where did you get the 5.9?

stock for stock means you have to find a time to go by, which is most likely published somewhere...

if a teg gs-r, which is not top of the line, ran 7.2, so what... it also has roughly 35hp less. that would make some sense eh?

what about trying to compete against a top of the line teg... type r vs your top o line neon?
or against a gti, or focus svt, or civic si

That neon engine is also gonna be the new PT Cruiser and also the Dodge Razor concept. Its a 2.4l turbo making only 205 hp... Talk about lack of high specific output.

205hp too little for a 2.4 liter I4 turbo? Is 220 lb-ft of torque also little?

I bet the peak is at around 6k rpm.

So yea, it will beat the o glorious type r, civic si, and other hondas
5.9 seconds is damn fast, compare that to this:

http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadt...0/page003.html

the type R's peak is at 8,000.0000 RPM and it outputs 195, with ridiculous torque figure of 130 @ 7,300.
the accelration, as tested by R&T is 6.7 seconds, far from this Neon everyone is bashing.
I am not fond of Neons, truse me, but this one is definately impressive.

You guys should stop being so biased and already know what you say before analyzing the situation - "it's a dodge, who cares, everyone knows hondas are the best rice-rockets..."

I'm not saying that it is slow at all, I just think they could have wrung out a bit more power, although I bet what the did get is very usable and the torque curve is probably nice and flat all the way across the band.
