starting trouble...??

i just got a 95 z28. well i havnt got it yet but it will be in my possession thursday probably.

The other night, when i went to move it, when i started it, it takes a long time to start. Like its taking a while for it to build fuel pressure. Its supposed to be getting a air pump or something for the fuel line or something like that, that was on recall. is that going to solve the problem? It idles at 500rpm, sounds steady but is that right? could it just be the iac thats having a problem, im gona try resetting it next time i get in the car...

Re: starting trouble...??

well, there wouldnt be an air pump for the fuel system, but if you are in fact getting a fuel pump that needs replacing, then yes, it should fix the problem.

Re: starting trouble...??

ahhh ok, that sounds beter, those do tend to get water in them.

in that case i would say you need to replace the fuel filter, at least as a starting point, they are cheap, and easy to replace, and cause this kind of condition when they get dirty.

yeah thats what i figured, which would effect engine performance in general right? as long as i dont have to drop the tank to replace a fuel pump then thats good...

thanks much...

from what i think i know, the recall is only on certain cars on that year, call a dealer and maybe they can tell you, you have to put in your vin number to find recalls for that car. dad works at dealer so he has those tools available...

just noticed if i start it when i just turned the engine off then it will fire right up, if i wait 10-20 minutes when it is still warm then it takes forever to start again...

someone told me that this could have something to do with injectors?

thanks for help...

Re: starting trouble...??

yup, replace the fuel filter, what is happening is when you turn it off, the fuel pressure slowly bleeds out of the fuel line past the regulator. after its been sitting there isnt enough pressure to get the fuel into the cylenders for them to fire. your fuel filter is restricting fuel flow making it take a while for the fuel line to pressurize. its a no brainer deal. it costs less than 15 bucks, and has two hex head fastners that screw into it on both ends in between two halves of the fuel line. its located just forward of the driver side rear tire, about a foot in from the outter ground effects.

Re: starting trouble...??

could also be a faulty fuel pressure regulator.. If they leak, they'l run fuel into your intake as the car sits and flood it.. try the filter first though

the recall thing is only on certain vin numbers, just try calling a dealer, they have tools no one else can get...
