Re: SBC 427 vin#?
well first of all, there is no such thing as a factory small block chevy 427. they were bigblocks. which are externally very different. You can make a 427 out of a 400 block smallblock, is that what he is looking for? and i dont know where youre at but finding a 427 at a junkyard would be all but imposible around here 400 blocks would be almost as bad. i would suggest he drop the dime on an aftermarket short block.

there is no such thing as a factory 427 sb. now there are sb's that have been bored and stroked to 427, but i believe the blocks have problems w/ hot spots because they have to get rid of the water jacket that is in-between the cylinders

Re: SBC 427 vin#?
not nessesarily true, if you throw a 4in stroke crank in a 400 block (4.125in bore) you get a 427cid small block, without overboring. At some point i want to build one of these for another camaro, when i actually have the money and space for multiple toys.

Re: SBC 427 vin#?
400 blocks are known for having cooling issues but if you build it right and add steam holes to help cool the block they are usually just fine.

Re: SBC 427 vin#?
well the only 427s i know of in camaros were the 1967-1969 model years, and they were rare. like, very rare, and i honestly doubt you have a snowballs chance in hell of finding one at the junkyard. maybe a 454 but not a 427. again, im going to have to say crate engine on this one. but if hes game for a 454 they were in all kinds of cars, but the 427 was a performance engine, and as such far more rare.
