the rust is eating my rear

The previous owner did a crappy job of taking care of the car. The hatch lid had a spoiler that got rust on it. The holes for the spoiler allowed water into the car. Now the bottom of the car, where the spare tire goes, has rust around it and through it. I looked underneath and found the bottom chipping away and could create a hole as big as my hand. So basically I am asking how much do you think it should cost to rid my rear of rust? I don't know how to weld and my uncle said it would cost around $1000-250.

1000$-250$??? So he's like a redneck, slack jawed yokel?

Hey Ma, take care of the youngnz, I'm going down to the lake to meet my lover.

Say hi to her for me, I haven't seen your sister in so long....

Anyways, rust is like a cancer, it spreads and there's not much you can do about it, you'll prolly have to cut out and replace half the back of your car...

Yeah, rust is a bitch to take care of and usually ends up with you having to replace whole body parts. I can't appraise it without seeing it firsthand or atleast some pictures of it.

Re: the rust is eating my rear

Ya I have the same EXACT problem. My hole is forming on the driver side rear of the spare cavity. I got some rust eater, and am going to grind the hole to a regular shape and just get some scrap to weld in. the welding job is simple as crap just have to worry about the gas tank. But I'm not really worried. as I always say "If you like a man A fire you'll keep him warm for hours. But if you light him ON fire you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life."
