Arrow Turbo the D16z6 or drop in B16A?

Hey all import lovers!! I just recently purchased a 92 civic CX hatch, its already got the D16z6 from a 95 civic ex (sohc vtec), what would be my best bet, turbo this with about 8-9psi, or drop in the b16a? I've got some mods done to it already..simple stuff, AEM cold air intake, thermal exhaust, highflow cat, JDM taillights, clear corners, front and rear strut bars. Oh and of course its a 5 speed. And to help u decide a little better I drive this as a daily driver...

Thanks in advance guys!! :smoker2:

oh

almost forgot the d16z6 has around 85,000 miles on it. And it was taken care of, with oil changes and all, and i took it yesterday to get the oil system totally cleaned with a chemical to get any oil geled up to any of the internals, and completely flushed, then refilled with new oil... thanks grease monkey!!

Hahaha, a Power Puff Girl blue valve cover to match that monsterous 70hp beast of a motor

Hahaha, no real mods yet less you call removing the resonator a mod. All my mods are in the mail... well, ok a few of them are... kit should be coming in 2-3 weeks depending on what I can get quoted for a paint job.

it all goes back to the basic question what is your expected goal? if under 200 whp is your goal then stick with the d series. if you plan on going over 200whp go with a b16. the b series motor is a better base to start off with then a d series motor but if your goals arent that high then it might just be overkill.

sit and thnk whatyou wanna do and how much its gonna costy each way you go, and make your decision.

alls i know is to build a good safe reliable powerhouse turbo d series is gonna run you from 4-6 grand (current project at hand )

Re: lol

They'd both come out about the same price but the D16 turbo would net you more power over the stock B16. But then you're kinda starting to max out the potential of the D16 where as the B16, you have alot more room to work with it.

It depends on what you want like they said. I'd stick with the D16 and turbo it for shits and giggles and it'll be great educational experience for you. You can experiment all you want on it and then if and when you blow it up, you'll be better informed on what your next step should be.

The B16 has so much more potential than the D16. Also, the power is somewhat more usable than the turbo power, and finally, the engine will last much longer normally aspirated.

With the B16s out there, I wouldn't really force induce a D16.

My 2 cents.

I would go with a B16 because no matter what you think now you will always want more power and after 180BHP your SOHC engine will really need alot of work if you want it to last

Im going with a B16a for my civic but thats just me

2 weeks and counting till I can rev it passed 8K woohoo

turbo the d16...you can get 200whp out of that engine easily and it won't cost more than the b16a.....should be good for low 13s, high 12s....plenty fast for a civic. Either way though, it's a win win situation.

The APEXI turbo kit for the 92-95 EX engine puts down around 195 ponies to the ground with 8-9 PSI intercooled. The only thing is the price on that kit but you can piece a used Greddy kit for around 1200 and put the same numbers on your hatch.New will be around 2000-2300.
Make sure you prep your motor for boost and that you get the right fuel feed for your engine

IMO i would turbo the SOHC and show the "swap" guys that changing the motor is not always the only choice possible around and that you can run 12 with a sohc motor. It seems that on these days nobody is willing to works their SOHCs and they inmediatelly tell swap swap swap.
