Unhappy Knocking

I have a 96 Mustang with the 4.6 and a automatic trans, it has been making a noise coming from the top of the motor. It has this knocking noise that sounds like it is coming from the valve covers. I thought it was coming from the trans but after a new transe it is still there.

Please Help!!!

Re: Knocking

I'm not a mechanic, nor am I modular motor guru, but it sounds like you need to check out your valvetrain. is it an actual "knock" or a pinging?

Re: Knocking

Its a knocking noise and its loudest right above the valve cover on the right side. I cant tell if its possibly a cam or a rocker or a lifter.
