Passenger tilt seat mechanism not functioning properly - 99 Wrangler

I have a 99 Wrangler Sport. A couple of weeks ago the passenger seat tilt mechanism quit working properly. There is a pull mechanism around shoulder level on the seat back as well as a seat release on the lower rear of the seat which releases the seat back to shift forward. When the seat back goes forward the seat would also tilt up off the base to allow easier access to the back. Now when the tab is pulled or the seat release engaged, the seat back shifts forward, but the seat does not tilt up.

There is a lever underneath the seat which can be manually pushed to engage the tilt mechanism, but it is inconvenient to access. I am assuming there may have been some type of wire/cable which engaged that lever when the seat back shifted forward, but I do not see any such cable or other connection which might be broken.

Any ideas as to what is going on and how it might be fixed???

Thanks much!

Burnie

it sounds like the cable is either broken or unhooked inside the seat. There are a couple of cables but if it works from the lever in back its probably the one in the seat back. You can peel the cover off the seat pretty easily. There are plastic clips on the bottom that you unhook. then just peel up the cover and you should be able to find the cable.

I have had the same problem. There is a cable that runs underneath the seat that attaches to the manual lever to the back of the seat. This cable sometimes slips, or breaks. The ONLY way to diag. the problem is to revome the four blots that hold the seat. You will need a special "star" socket for one of the rear bolts. the others are normal bolts. Onces the seat is removed you turn it upside down and it is pretty easy to replace the cable. Make sure that you snap the plastic ends of the cable into the metel guides securley if you do not you will end up removing the seat again to put them in. Just folow the path of the orignal cable, and you will be fine.
GOOD LUCK!. If you have the tools it takes about an hour for the first time. The cable is $25!!.
