95 Passat 2.0L stalling problem

My car stalls on most journeys at what I beleive is on "change over" from cold to hot stttings (at approx 68c oil temperature) the car just cuts out and sometimes restarts by itself other times I have to come to a stop and wait three to five minutes before restarting. once restarted the car is fine for the remainder of the journey. I have had the car in the garage numerous times and the mechanic has replaced both the throttle body and the distributor to no avail, although once he has reset the basic settings in the ECU the car runs fine for a week or two before the problem returns? I have now given up on the garage and would like to fix the problem myself anyone any thoughts?

Try cleaning & lubricating (with terminal grease) the electrical connector to the distributor.
