New seat material?

Hi,

I am looking into re-upholstering the Si drivers seat in my 89. So far I've found the material is obsolete and not readily available. Has anyone successfully located new fabric and re-upholstering theses seats? I'm thinking about harvesting some material from rear seats from the junkyard. Is this my best option?

Thanks

Re: New seat material?

it could work, but thats alot of drama to go through to get it back to its stock look,
if your interested in show quality,
maybe go for a nice colored vinyl, recreating a stock seat,
or just try to stack the money for some racing seats,
you may also be able to pick up a si seat from a junkyard in good condition.....hmmm........maybe

(me myself,my si drivers seat has some rips in it,seat covers temporarly)

Racing Seats here I come

Re: New seat material?

There is a company that specializes in factory upolstery, I have there contact stuff at the shop. I'm sure they sell it, they even sell AMC materials, and they havnt been in buisiness since the 80's. re-using fabric that is that old wont work that good. Have you tried looking for it yourself or going to an auto upolstery shop? Most of the time the places that would have the fabric dont sell to the to the public.

Re: New seat material?

Thanks for the reply. If all else fails I was thinking of black suede or other black fabric for the sides and the material from the center section of the 04 Si seats for my center sections.

Cool, if you could post or pm me more info that would be great. Thanks.
I went to a shop this week, we found a sample of the side fabric but he said he couldn't order it. He also told me to forget about finding the fabric for the center section as well... So any help is appreciated. Thanks again.
