Question New 93T-Bird owner

I recently purchase a 93 Bird LX 5.0HO. As a new owner and new to this forum, I tried to read most of the archives to solve a few issues that I am having. First issue is the Engine light comes on and off. Is there some way that I can get the codes on my own to figure out what's going on or do I have to take it to a shop for them to read it. Also the climate control only works on high mode. Also I wouldn't mind a few suggestions on adding a little more HP without spending to much $$$. Any help would be appreciated.

Call a local parts store (like Autozone) and ask if they can read/pull OBD-I or OBD-II codes for you off of your car.

A lot depends on what you consider too much money. You can even buy a code reader for about $30.

I have checked into it and will go get a code reader. Thanks.
By too much $$$, I am looking at under 1g for now.
My brother drove race cars for many years, 1/4 mile, and I know how much money you can easily spend, but the budget is tight right now. If anybody wants to check out his home page it's, www3.sympatico.ca/smclean/

For starters, and so you don't have to respend money later (unless you want to), go with 24# or 32# injectors, 65mm TB, 70mm MAF calibrated for the respective injectors, remove the air silencer in the passenger side fender well, get some headers, upper lower intake, just let it breath.

Re: New 93T-Bird owner

Thanks for the help and pointers guys, headers will go on in the Spring. I hear a lot of people mention the MAF, sorry for not knowing but what exactly is an MAF?
I checked out your link yesterday, thanks Mike. We get a fair amount of snow here in Toronto and I'm kind of stuck and might have to drive the Bird through the Winter which I'm not looking forward to. It has only seen one winter up to now. I am still waiting to see if anyone knows why the heater blower only works on high. Anyone??
