My 1997 Ram 1500 5.9L blew the engine control fuse again. I've never had a problem with it until last Saturday when it blew the fuse when I went to start it. I had been driving it that day, parked it, and when I went back to it, it wouldn't start. Found the blown fuse, changed it, and it started great and ran fine until yesterday when it wouldn't start again. I immediatly checked the fuse, and sure enough, it had blown again. This time I just took the fuse apart and touched the 2 bits of metal together, basically eliminating the fuse all together because I almost don't give a crap, but I am interested in finding out what could be causing the fuse to blow. It's a 30 amp fuse. Like I said, i've never had any problems with the fuse until last Saturday. As far as I can tell, the only thing it controls is the spark. The engine will turn over when the fuse is blown and everything works (lights, radio, dash components) but it won't spark. I've been driving it for 2 days now with the fuse rigged the way I mentioned above and I haven't had any trouble. No misfiring or detonation in the engine. What else is running on that fuse, if anything?

Something must be blowing it though, there must be a short someplace. One of these mornings you'll come outside to start your truck and it will be smouldering. Your boyfriend will dump you.

At this point, I don't really care if I find it smouldering. I mean, I love the truck, but I've got insurance. As for my boyfriend, he loves me with or without the truck.

You could try replacing the fuse with a circuit breaker, that way you could just reset it if it trips.
