Worth getting headers?

If I plan to eventually boost an 00 GT, is it worth shelling out the money to buy N/A exhaust headers? Or just get an exhaust with stock headers?

Re: Worth getting headers?

headers will make ALOT more horsepower than just an exhaust but normally need to be tuned. average catback exhaust will make 3-5 while a tuned set will make 15-35 (untuned) 10-15

Re: Worth getting headers?

dude...if your going to boost...better to not waste your money on N/A headers...because they wont hold up to your turbo or nos...they'll crack on you...because they're thinner...at least...this is what i hear anyways...

Re: Worth getting headers?

id have to agree with skunk monkey with that one. if you plan on boosting, dont waste your money on getting headers. I would get a cat-back exhaust though

Ok that's what I thought.. it's different with civics.. putting in 4-2-1 headers isn't a big deal cause they're only like $200, but seeing that the GT headers are like 800 at the least, figured it wouldn't be smart.

Re: Worth getting headers?

it would depend on which way of boosting you are going to go with. with the SDS from RIPP, they require you to have aftermarket headers. so if you were going to so with the SDS, then yes you would need headers. but if you are going to go turbo, then no you dont need them. the V6 has cast iron headers that are very strong. i dont really know about the 4cyl

True cast iron headers are strong, but also VERY imperfect. Ripp mods makes those headers mainy to prevent engine damage, not so much that stock headers cant take it, but that the exhaust speed will greatly increase. With turbo the speed will probably increase more because boost is usually much higher than supercharged. I would say if youve got the money go with the RIPP headers to make sure your engine wont take damage. Cast iron headers have alot of imperfections on the inside that slow down exhaust flow, and creates a lot of air friction. No matter what type of forced induction you chose i would say look at aftermarket RACE style headers...for your engines sake.

I think some people are misunderstanding my question..

I meant there's no sense getting normal aftermarket headers if I'm going to need a turbo exhaust manifold eventually.

Re: Worth getting headers?

if your gonna go with johnnys turbo kit, then you dont need headers. the kit was made using the stock headers, so using aftermarket headers will probably cause a problem. john said so himself
