Trunk slams open now

95 park ave. the trunk (has the pull down feature but I dont think that has anything to do with it), when I open it with the remote, it used to open nice and sweet. A nice gentle open.

now when you hit the remote, the trunk opens quickly and goes "thunk!!" when it hits the fully open stops at the top.

Why did this happen all of a sudden? Its like the trunk lid lost 5 lbs and its lighter and opening super fast now.

Can it be adjusted? I see the tensioner rods in the trunk and it looks like there are two positions for the rods (a lower slot and a higher slot). How do you move those rods? they seem content where they are. and finally, is there more tension in the top slot or the bottom slot (i.e., which slot makes the trunk open slower?

Re: Trunk slams open now

those tensioner rod are very strong, be very very careful if you do decide to mess with them(i don't see a reason to) those rods act like a huge spring and can shoot out. you may want a mechanic do the job instead. they are normally set for weather or not the car has a spoiler, since the lid is heavier with a spoiler. i don't know which position is which.

is the pull down working properly? anything stuck inside the weather seal around the lid or anything else in the area that would put extra pressure on the lid?

Re: Trunk slams open now

One of the rubber stops may have came loose causing the THUNK. They are in the hinge area.

Re: Trunk slams open now

The rubber is attached to the trunk support ( the round pipe ) on each side, just below the pivot point under the rear shelf.
