air conditioning problem

hey,
I got an 88 C1500 5.7 350

When I turn on my air conditioning, my compressor stays on and never shuts off until I turn off the A/C. Is this normal? I don't think so. My truck also starts to overheat slowly until I turn off the AC. If my compressor is not switching off and on, what can be causing this?

Thanks,
matthew

Re: air conditioning problem

Few things to check. Check the wiring to the A/C Compressor; you could have a dirty contact on your compressor. Also, get your system checked by an authorized A/C Service agent you could be low on gas or the strainer inside the system could be clogged.
The reason your engine heats up is because the compressor is trying to pull down the temperature and can't thus a constant extra drag on your engine.
Sorry I don't have any other solid fixes but, that should point you in the right direction.

Things to do.

Hook up a gauge on the low side and see if the pressure goes down as you increase rpm. If not then in the previous post is correct.

You filter in the line is clogged.
Its a little filter to keep metal from the compressor.

Also I would not run the a/c until fix because you are basically having a VERY LOW pressure feeding the line in which will destroy your compressor since there is not any oil getting to the compressor.

1. Buy inline filter.
2. Get system dischanged. / Maybe see if they are flush the system.
3. Replace filter.
4 refill a/c and add some more oil.

You might have to do this again because you might have eatten up the compressor a little and there might be more metal in the lines.

I hope I am tottally wrong and your a/c starts working perfectly for no reason.

I hate it when my a/c goes out.
