Question 99 Galant No lights on the instrument cluster

Hey guys,
Hope someone can help. Just bought a 99 Galant. Nice car but the lights on the instrument cluster do not work. The lights like the "service engine soon", "cruise," etc work but no background lights around the tach or speedometer work. Does anyone know why this is doing this. The fuses look fine. Also the light side turn signals don't either. The left green turn arrow on the cluster don't work either. Does this have something to do with the lights.

Re: 99 Galant No lights on the instrument cluster

Ok the light bulbes may have to be replaced. easy task all you need is a short screwdriver and a regular phillips. 1ST remove the -battery cable. remove the screws that hold the bezel cover note remove the plug for th dimming switch then the 4 screws that hold the cluster. You may need to lower the steering wheel to make this easier. Reach behind thcluster anremove thplug on thyour left first then the plug on the right. Then carefully remove the instument cluster one side at a time. you'll be able to replace each bulb with no problem. The wire carring power to the cluster resides on the right hand plug. If you turn the plug on the side were the pins are visible you'll notice that the wires running into that plug are split into two sets. NOW the first wire from the middle to your right is the power wire. This wire should be either brown or green w/ a stripe. use somthing pointy like a scribe to work th pin out so you can safly pull the wire. If you look at the end of the wire ther is a pin w/ a flange this pin has to makcontact w/ th curcit board on the cluster for it to work. lift the flange enough so that it will protrude be carful not to break it reinsert into the cplug and put everything back carfully. This should solve your problem. Bulbs are cheap so replace all at once and u never have to fiddle w/ this again!

Had the exact same problem with my 99 es v6. Took it to the dealership cost = $98.00 to replace all three bulbs behind gauges. Was well worth the money since i know nothing about cars. Have since gotten rid of the car. It was the biggest hunk of junk, anything that could have gone wrong went wrong.
