Eratic Idle

Ok so awhile ago my friend was having problems with his 89 hatch with b18a, it wouldent run, I got it to run but now the ide surges up to 4 grand and will surge up inbetween shifts. It didnt do this before the car wouldent start.

This also happend to my old hatch but that was so long ago I cant remember what it was. I checked the vacuum lines and they all seemed to be connected.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Eratic Idle

1. check base timing
2. EACV
3. FIV
4. idle adjustment screw

one of those is most likely the culprit.

Re: Eratic Idle

FITV. Its under the throttle body, I used to have a good H-T link to the fix for it.. I'll try and find it.

I've had it 3 times on 2 different B16s of mine and its always been this thing.

Here it is:

Re: Eratic Idle

Nope wasent the FITV I did take it apart and clean it though it helped alittle it brought it down 500 rpm to about a 3,500 idle

So then I was checkin around somemore and found out the throttle cable would move when the motor would start so I adjusted that and it still wasent idling so I figured out it was the diaprham thing on the obd0 manifolds, it was stuck it wouldent move up or down by itself so when I held it down the idle went to normal so I just took that off bypassed the vacuum line to another one that was capped off and it run's like a champ!

Thanks for your suggestions siz and 91dxdude.

Re: Eratic Idle

He might give me some cash, I tend not to charge him too much, we grew up together and that is his only mode of transportation and he has just recently had alot done to his car so he didnt really have much money.

I offered to fix it for him so he might give me some cash and he might not, no biggie.

But someone other than my close friends you best believe I'll charge their ass!
