What crakhead enginer came up with this (tranny)

Like i said in a previous post im going down a long list of things ive ignored on my rodeo for to long and now im to checking out the tranny. So i thought first ill check my fluid level yet after 20 minutes of looking i cant find a dipstick, so i grab the manual. They have got to be kidding me, first im supposed to buy a tool from the dealer then if its low im supposed to add fluid with a syringe? Come on there has got to be a better way...........

Sorry for those offended by me cracking on isuzu's engineers but the more i look into my engine compartment the madder im getting.

Actually you do not need any special tool since the all you have to use is a 3/8 drive rachet with out a socket to open it. I also suggest getting a small hand pump as it makes it easy to fill up.

Good Luck.

Its the General Motors engineers that are at fault. Its the Isuzu management that are at fault for agreeing to use the GM tranny

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/Ve...ssionIndex.htm

According to this, that tranny is only in an acura, bmws, isuzus, the passport, and the cadillac catera.

It seems that GM put 4L60s in most of their vehicles and that is a good transmission. I wonder how similar they are and if we could swap one in place of our crappy tranny.

Re: What crakhead enginer came up with this (tranny)

Do yourself a favor and have a quick lube place or the dealer flush your tranny.

If you just pull the drain plug you will only get 3.5qts of the 9 in it.

I just had mine flushed today at the dealer (cost 100 + tax) and on the bill they list 14qts of fluid. So that means the flush an extra 5 qts to get most of the old fluid out. If you have +80k on your tranny I would recommend dropping the pan and replacing the filter.

If you drop the pan and change the filter is it still good to do a flush or no?? I had my fluid changed at 80k kms and they dropped the pan and cleaned the magnet but i dont think they changed the filter.

If they just dropped the pan I would wait a year and then have it flushed. If they dropped the pan I would assume they would of replaced the filter too, otherwise why would they drop the pan?

I think that an ATF swap thru the cooler lines (with a transfer machine) is the cleanest & most thorough way, but most quicky lube places don't have a CLUE on how to verify proper ATF level on these trucks & there isnt much margin for error on the 4L30E. If you have to climb under there & pull the fill plug to double check for proper level, you may as well just change the ATF yourself! There's tons of posts on how to do it. Otherwise, have a trustworthy 'zu dealer do it for you. Would you believe the 4L30E is actually derived from the non-electronic 3L30 out of the old chevy chevette! . They still last longer than most when properly maintained.
G/luck

Re: What crakhead enginer came up with this (tranny)

Others may dissagree but ive never seen a place that flushed a tranny ever get the majority of the fluids out of the torque converter but again others may dissagree. As far as changin the fluid yourself the only probelm there is you can never get the torque converter to drain out and it holds most of your tranny fluid. Regardless of wether you flush the tranny or not , you still have to agree a tranny setup like this is a crackhead idea.

Het when you all say i dont need any special tools the manual i read said i required a temp stick of some sorts do i not need this?

I have never used it. Let you know when it craps the bed, but no problems at 134K...
