Unhappy 2003 Cavalier Engine dying occasionally

I have a 2003 cavalier and have experienced a strange occurance that happens only once in a while then will go away.

I have a 2.2 Ecotec with a manual tranny. Occasionally as I being to stop after travleing down the road, my engine will simply quit. It seems to do this as I am stopping and the engine rpms decrease. When I pull to a complete stop, the roms usuallu linger at about 1000, but then it will drop below that and the engine will quit. I can often catch it before it does since the engine will vibrate, and all I have to do is push the gas a bit and keep it running. Then once I get going again everything is ok. I cannot ascertain any patternof driving or type of gas as being the problem, nor temperature for this matter.

The dealership has not been able to replicate the problem so they don't think there is anything they can do.

Anyone know why this would be happening?

Re: 2003 Cavalier Engine dying occasionally

ask your dealer to check for updates on the idle program for the computer. Had similar problem with my 2004 and there was an update, Loaded it into the computer and never had a problem since. Hope this helps
